This bright and zesty Champagne is lightly juicy and appealing, offering flavors of Honeycrisp apple, ripe white cherry, biscuit and pickled ginger. Balanced and lacy in texture, with a lingering, spiced finish. Drink now through 2022. (AN)
Pretty notes of toasted bread, yeast, orange peel and white peach introduce rich, full-bodied and borderline creamy flavors that are shaped by a relatively soft effervescence before terminating in an agreeably dry, clean and focused finale. This is drier than the 7 g/l would usually suggest but I underscore that it stops short of austerity. Lovely stuff fashioned in a 'drink me now' style.
Described by Drappier as 'almost a blanc de noirs', this Pinot Noir-dominant wine sourced from the Côte des Bar is the house's calling card. 5% of the cuvée is matured in barrels for a year for added complexity and texture, and it's bottled unfiltered with a fairly low dosage of 7g/l. There are some melon and apple scents on the nose along with a splash of red fruits, while the palate is intense, with notes of apple, quince and grape wrapped in a red-fruit veil. It's full-bodied and long, with a lovely texture from the red wine tannins and oak-matured portion. (JB)
The latest release of the NV Carte d'Or Brut was disgorged in November 2017, and it's showing well today, wafting from the glass with notions of waxy lemon rind, hazelnuts, fresh peaches and lily pollen. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and vibrant, with pinpoint bubbles, brisk acids and good length and definition on the chalky finish. Attractively balanced, it will gain depth with bottle age. (WK)
Tight, fresh and Chablis-esque dusty/mineral quality on the nose plus a slight yeasty note. There is that yeasty aroma but it is less broad than in the wine aged in the Drappier cellars. This is still creamy but it is a touch herbal and more citrus. Slightly smoky. Acidity seems higher than the cellar-aged wine, perhaps because the fruit seems less rich and full. Tight, precise and elegant. 17.5/20 points. (JH)
The standard nonvintage cuvée from this producer is satisfyingly mature. While it has a crisp side, the blend of mainly Pinot Noir is fruity, with bright apple flavors and a touch of toastiness. It is ready to drink. (RV)
