Here is a Chardonnay that goes right to the fruity point even as it makes no apologies for ripeness and a full dose of sweet, lightly toasty oak. It is full and slightly supple with fine proportion and balance throughout and is marked by a sense of sophistication uncommon in wines of its richness and size. It is at once bold but well-measured and stays structured even as a touch of late-arriving heat peeks through at the finish, and, if an eminently satisfying companion to richer seafood and fowl in its youth, it promises to be better yet after a wait of some two to four years. *Two Stars*
Kosta Browne's 2013 Chardonnay One Sixteen is quite pretty. Pear, white peach, smoke and slate all blossom In the glass. The addition of Ritchie fruit, a first for this wine, gives the flavors additional brightness. The soft, silky finish is incredibly inviting. (AG)
Shows intensity and vibrancy, exhibiting a complex mix of mineral- and citrus-laced green apple flavors, with subtle touches of toasty oak. Ends with a full-bodied aftertaste that should be better after a year. (JL)
