The 2012 Pinot Noir Mays Canyon captures all the potential I sensed last year. Dark, rich and powerful in the glass, the 2012 offers a compelling array of dark red and purplish fruit, smoke, cloves, menthol and new leather. This is a decidedly powerful, virile Pinot that demands cellaring. (AG)
Bright medium red. Dark aromas of huckleberry, blackberry, blueberry and menthol are lifted by a sexy floral topnote. The richest Pinot to this point but also quite dry and backward, showing lovely intensity to the savory flavors of briary berries and underbrush. Spreads out nicely to saturate the palate on the back end, but substantial tongue-dusting tannins call for two or three years of cellaring. Excellent potential here. (ST) 92+
