This massive, astonishingly rich and concentrated wine is hands-down the biggest and boldest wine on the Von Strasser roster, yet for all of its show-stopping size and unabashed ripeness, it is kept comfortably on course by a deep core of fruit. Brimming with currants, cherries, chocolate and unstinting oak, it shows flashes of walnuts and rich, loamy soil. Like all of its siblings, it carries plenty of tannin and is one for the cellar, but its powerful and persistent fruit ensures it a very bright future. Let it sit quietly until its tenth birthday arrives, and expect it to be in very fine shape after a couple of decades have passed.

This is a big wine for folks who like to age their Cabs. It’s huge in mountain tannins now, but the underlying structure is so fine, and the cassis and cherry fruit so pure, that it’s guaranteed to improve through this decade and beyond.
This is a rich and powerful mountain-grown red with ripe, intense, firmly tannic red currant, cherry, berry and sage flavors that are tightly wound, focused and long on the finish.
Saturated medium ruby. Dark aromas of cassis, blueberry, exotic baking spices, bitter chocolate and menthol. Lush, sweet, creamy and strong in extract; complex flavors of currant, licorice, Cuban tobacco, chocolate and fresh herbs, with a suggestion of medicinal austerity. The biggest of these 2001 reds, finishing with substantial but sweet tannins and excellent length. (ST)
