The 2013 Zinfandel Geyserville is every bit as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel last year. Ripe and voluptuous on the palate - yet with a super-classic conception of structure, the 2013 offers superb depth and impeccable overall balance. Waves of dark red cherry, pomegranate, spice, tobacco lead to more savory/ferrous notes that develop in the glass. Saline notes give the 2013 much of its energy and vivacity. This is a tremendous effort from Ridge. (AG)
Taking its accustomed place near the head of this year’s class, Ridge’s classic field blend is once again a wine of great depth and range, and one that comes with the demand for aging. It is fully ripe but never close to being too much and is loaded with deep, dark berry fruit, and it already shows highlights of dried flowers and sweet spice that presage increased complexity to come. It is weighty but impeccably balanced and quite long at the finish, and, given Geyserville bottlings’ stellar track record for aging, this one can be held with complete confidence for a good many years. *Two Stars*
Made from 73% Zinfandel, 17% Carignan, 9% Petite Sirah, and a splash of Mourvèdre, the 2013 Geyserville Proprietary Red Wine is a sexy, voluptuous, concentrated and hedonistic beauty that offers tons of plum, licorice, roasted herbs and leather like aromas and flavors. One of the more ripe and decadent wines in the lineup, it has the mid-palate depth and concentration to evolve for 15+ years. (JD)
Succulent plum fruits and spiced tree barks on the nose are accented by a bit of cracked pepper. These carry into the mouth with impressive concentration, and loads of mouth-watering presence. There is plenty of intensity here with finesse. Lovely. Will do well with a few more years in bottle before opening. (ECB)
