K&L Notes

Cotes de Gascogne is primarily known for the production of Armagnac; it wasn’t until the last 20 years or so that producers began to take table wine production seriously. Traditionally, these wines would have been distilled into Armagnac. Producers found that by fermenting at lower temperatures in stainless steel, they could develop and preserve more powerful aromatics. Though yields are high, costs have stayed low and the wines are consequently some of the best bargain whites in France. Domaine de Millet is first and foremost an Armagnac producer. They are fifth generation producers with the reins now in the hands of daughter Laurence. The Côtes de Gascogne Blanc is an expressive blend of 50% Colombard and 50% Ugni Blanc. This wine is a great alternative white for you Sauvignon Blanc drinkers out there. It is loaded with peach and citrus aromatics and has vibrant acidity and clarity. Although Domaine Millet is primarily known for the production of quality Armagnac, we've become more enamored with this ridiculously inexpensive (and ridiculously good) white wine from their estate. Made with Ugni Blanc and Colombard, this acts as a great next step for Sauvignon Blanc drinkers looking for something new. Bright, refreshing, citrusy fruit guides the palate making it a perfect summertime slugger.

What a lovely wine. From the Côtes de Gascogne, a blend of 50% Colombard and 50% Ugni Blanc. Fresh fruit and acidity with a surprising weight on the mid-palate. This is the perfect holiday wine. Just by itself or it can stand up to some great holiday food fare!

Bright yellow fruit like starfruit and lemon, with hints of grass, grapefruit and a beautiful river pebble minerality overwhelm the nose of this staff favorite. Hands down, one of the best values in the entire store.

This super summer sipper is an amazing value and very versatile for BBQ's, the patio, picnics casual get- togethers and as an all-around thirst-quencher. This delicious and affordable blend of equal parts Colombard and Ugni Blanc is crisp, clean and tangy with a crushed fruit middle of citrus and peach.

Ugni Blanc (aka Trebbiano) grows in abundance in both France and Italy, where it is used as both table wine and in the crafting of fine Armagnacs in Gascogne. This is a bright, refreshing blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard, imbued with citrus, white flower and quince notes, harmonious and pure, perfect as a delightful aperitif or with a variety of foods from salads to shellfish. Drink throughout the long summer, it is a wonder!
    Top Value!

It amazes me that we are now drinking wines from Gasgogne, and beautiful wines at that! This Colombard/Ugni Blanc offers a lot of tropical fruit along a juicy acidity that not only frames the wine nicely but also entices the appetite for another sip. Try that with light appetizers, salads, light seafood, and I could go on...

A terrific alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, this has lively tropical notes of pineapple and papaya. On the palate zingy grapefruit and guava. It is a lusty wine with nice nerve and a refreshing finish. A perfect wine to quaff on a warm summer day.
