The 2012 Proprietary Red Blend The Change Up possesses an opaque blue/purple color as well as plenty of blueberry, raspberry, licorice and spice notes intermixed with a subtle hint of background wood. With a full-textured, full-bodied mouthfeel, this is hedonism at its best. Anyone interested in drinking wine for pleasure will enjoy this pleasure-bomb. Consume it over the next 8-10 years. This is one of my favorite wineries for full-throttle, pedal-to-the-metal, delicious, well-made wines. While the names are whimsical, and often detract from the seriousness of the viticultural work and winemaking of Les Behrens and his wife, this is a serious operation dedicated to extraordinary high quality. The fact that Les Behrens hailed from the restaurant business always drove his vision to produce wines that were simply "delicious." And delicious they are. These are not would-be shrines or for agenda-driven tasters looking for oxidized, thin, emaciated and sadistic-tasting wines. These are barroque! We should all be thankful that Behrens has never deviated from his mission. In a wine world that can sometimes trend toward arrogant and elitist, this is one place that offers a joyride with no pretension, but with great quality. Let’s hope Les and Lisa Behrens never change.
