A markedly earthy nose features notes of very ripe dark currant, game and leather hints. Here too there is a lovely sense of energy and punch to the muscular but not really rustic broad-shouldered flavors that also possess very good if not sensational mid-palate concentration before culminating in a balanced and palate coating finish.
The 2012 Corton Cuvee du Bourdon (or as I like to call it, the “bumblebee blend”) is a blend of the Corton and Corton Bressandes that were combined this year due to depleted quantities. It has a refined, composed bouquet with delineated black fruit, briary and limestone scents that unfold in the glass. The palate is introspective and quite tannic at first, but balanced with tertiary black fruit that build towards a more expressive, more floral finish. This should be afforded 3-4 years in bottle once released. (NM)
From Corton-Paulands, but it includes Corton-Bressandes in 2012. Lip-smacking nose – very appealing. Masses of ripe fruit and juice. Lots of energy and fruity excitement. Crackling impact. Much more vital than the average Corton. (18/20 points)
