La Monacesca quickly became a favorite DI property here at K&L. The 2013 Verdicchio is crisp, bright, floral and nutty, with a great mineral backbone and plenty of depth. Truly delicious stuff and the perfect introduction to the property. If you like this style, don't miss the absolutely incredible 2010 La Monacesca "Mirum" offering!

Ripe exotic notes of passion fruit, guava, jasmine lead the way. The palate is similarly ripe and juicy with lots of exotic fruit flavors...then the natural acidity kicks in tightening everything up and making it sail on through the finish. An interesting interplay between ripeness and exotic flavor with good tension and zippy acidity.

The vineyard for the Classic bottling is made from a vineyard that is 50% 30 year old vines and 50% 10 year old vines. The nose is full of elderflower, pear and stone fruit aromatics, but the really impressive part of this wine is the palate presence, body, texture, and depth add to the mineral laden center of the wine. The finish is decisive, focused and seems to go on forever.

This is from limestone rich soil at 1500 ft. elevation, which results in some of the best Verdicchio in the world. Honey, spiced apricot, mango and a glycerin texture are energized by mineral/acid tension and a lingering finish of exotic fruit. This manages to both rich and refreshing.

One of my new favorite direct import producers. Every wine I have had from them is terrific. This year's offering is very aromatic, medium bodied, has delicate but pronounced minerality and a nice lingering finish. A delicious, versatile dinner wine.

La Monacesca did it again! This is one of my top five white wines! Late harvest, low yields and a mineral-laden soil produces such a amazing wine. I know it is great when I can sit for a half an hour with one glass. Wonderful with food or on its own. No oak involved and none needed. Did I mention superb natural acidity? Give it a good decanting and watch the magic unfold. Intense, dry and fruity! What more could you want from a bottle under $20? Well if you ask me, grilled Santa Barbara spot prawns are a match made in Heaven!

This 2013 Verdicchio di Matelica, is a very good example for the vintage. Offers crisp and refreshing citric fruit flavors, and aromas with the characteristic touch of green herbs, is a wonderful value, a well-rounded wine, beautifully structured, soft on the palate but with a slight suggestion of almond (typical for Verdicchio), a great end of summer sipping wine and is very food-friendly.
