Incorporating more Tannat than normal, the 2011 Tsundere is comprised of 35% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Tannat and the balance Grenache. Aged 18 months in 65% new French oak, it’s the most structured and tannic in the lineup, and will need 2-4 years to round into form. It shows the Cabernet on the nose, with textbook cassis, blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings and hints of tobacco leaf all emerging from the glass. This is followed by a full-bodied, seamless, yet beautifully concentrated wine that has solid density, a great texture and building, savory tannin. There are less than 200 cases of this, but it’s a great wine and will have 15+ years of longevity. Made by Scott Hawley, these are classic Paso blends that never lack for fruit or texture, yet always back it up with superb underlying structure. Drink through 2029. (JD) 94+
Torrin's 2011 Tsundere comes across as distinctly ferrous and floral in this vintage, with tons of aromatic intrigue and nuance, much of that coming from a blend that includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and Grenache. Dark red and black stone fruits and smoke are all laced into a super-expressive, powerful finish full of pure, unbridled energy. The blend is 35% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Tannat and 10% Grenache. (AG)
Delightfully complex, with a mix of subtle flavor nuances supported by rich, chewy tannins. The mocha, dark berry, espresso, tobacco and cedar notes all fold together gracefully. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and Grenache. Best from 2016 through 2027. (JL)
