Tasting Notes

Costieres de Nimes is at the southernmost part of the Rhone Valley sitting on the opposite bank of Chateauneuf du Pape. One of our best new finds is Chateau de l'Ermitage which produces three terrific values with imminent drinkability. The estate's history traces back to the 12th century when the winery produced wine for the pilgirms of Saint Jacques de Compostelle who were traveling the Santiago de Compostela. The property is now owned by Castillon family and today Michel and his son Jerome manage the vineyards and winemaking. The "Victor" is named for the first member of the Castillon family to own the property. The Blanc is a blend of 60% Roussanne, 30% Grenache Blanc and 10% Viognier. The terroir consists of large pebbles from the Durance river which long predates the Rhone. Average age of the vines is 20 years old and the vineyard is about 6.5 hectares. Expect a richer palate from the Grenache Blanc and Roussanne and lovely aromatics from the Viognier. The winery is certified Terra Vitis (sustainable).

As one of my favorite Mel Brooks characters, "VICTOR FRONKENSTEEN" used to say... IT'S ALIVE!!! That can easily be said for the expressive fruit, rich creaminess, and strong minerality. Blended from Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier, this has something for virtually every white wine palate. A sure-fire bet for your next party!

This little white has the classic dynamics of a fresh and well fruited Cotes-du-Rhone blanc. It has juicy lively stone fruit flavors with a touch of minerality in the finish. So pleasing and so delicious. A great warm weather sipper for porch sitting.

Extraordinarily aromatic - this blend of 60% Roussanne, 20% Grenache, and 20% Viognier is like walking through a field of blooming springtime flowers. Once you actually move past the intoxicating aroma and into tasting the wine, you'll find stone fruit as well as a toasty, biscuity flavor, akin to a well developed champagne. This beautiful white blend is perfect with grilled fish or BBQ'd fruits.
