Deep red. Powerful aromas of red berries and cherry skin are complicated by anise and dried rose nuances. Nervy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show impressive depth, with silky tannins giving shape to the wine. A tangy note of blood orange comes up with air and carries through the long, impressively energetic finish. Guthrie told me that the pH is 3.28, which is extremely low for a New World Pinot and similar to some of the most energetic versions from New Zealand. (ST)
This is an elegant offering with cool but ripe red and black cherry aromas introducing delicious and pure medium-bodied flavors that possess a dusty and sappy mouth feel on the attractively dry and lingering finish. This is clearly very much of a baby and will need a few years to really come into its own but the potential is clearly here. Unlike several of the wines in the range, I wouldn't experiment with this right away, or if curiosity overwhelms judgment, then give it at least 30 minutes in an open-mouthed decanter.
