K&L Notes

Winemaker's Notes: "Pale golden straw with green hue. Lifted aromatics of honeysuckle, lemon zest and toasted almond. Finely structured on the palate with subtle fresh flavours of grapefruit, white peach, wet stone and a mouthwatering salty/briny character on the finish. The cool yet sunny environment of our Te Awanga Vineyard near Cape Kidnappers, just yards from the breaking waves, allows the development of intense Chardonnay flavours in the grapes, captured using traditional winemaking techniques seen in the Chablis region of France. Vinified in a combination of Stainless steel tanks and 600L French oak puncheons and larger cuves. Less than 10% of the wine sees any new oak in order to maintain crispness and focused minerality."

A must-try for any Chardonnay fan, Craggy Range's "Kidnapper's Vineyard" is quite unique and delicious! The vineyard is named for nearby Cape Kidnappers (the site of an 18th century abduction of Captain Cook's interpreter by the native Maori) located on the Hawke's Bay coastline. The ocean breeze moderates the summer temperatures and the resulting wine is snappy with acidity and hints of flinty minerality, while still rich, toasty, nutty, and creamy. At $19.99, this awesome Chard is a steal (you knew it was coming).
