K&L Notes

According to Antonio Galloni: "The Weir brothers own Comptche Ridge, a remote, dry-farmed site in Anderson Valley. Anthony Filiberti farms the vineyard and makes the wine, half of which is bottled under Filiberti's Anthill Farms label, while the other half is bottled under the Comptche Ridge Vineyards label. The wines are identical. More importantly, though, Comptche Ridge is emerging as a site capable of yielding exquisite and distinctive Pinots."

This 2013 Comptche Pinot Noir is such a good deal! The 50% whole cluster really accentuates some floral notes at the same time a richness to the nose. The palate gives you a bit of black cherry and cinnamon with medium viscosity and and lasting acidity. You should definitely grab a bottle or even two before this one is gone!

A tad richer on the nose than the 2012 giving off soft, ripe fraise des bois, black cherries and cinnamon. A bit of a spicy palate and fine tannins all accompanied by a pretty and refreshing acidity. For $20 there is absolutely no need to hesitate.

Another outstanding Pinot value! I recently had the pleasure of tasting the 2013 Comptche Ridge Estate Mendocino County Pinot Noir and came away thoroughly impressed. The nose has elements of earth, spice, bramble, and savory elements. On the palate, there is a delicious umami texture backed up with spice and lively acidity with a long finish. This is a KILLER Pinot for the price!
    Top Value!

Deal of the Year! In January!? What a wine and what a price point! The Comptche Ridge 2013 captures the exotic, wild side of Pinot Noir; it's packed full of rich brambly fruit, pomegranate, Asian spice, dried herbs, classic forest floor tones. Beautifully concentrated and subtly powerful with refined silky texture and fantastic length on the palate. A top notch wine, from a renowned winemaker, a great vintage, and a vineyard site with world-class potential. We've already stocked up our cellars - this one is way too good to miss.

Remember when K&L secured unbelievable pricing for Mendocino’s Knez Family Wines and we sold out of hundreds of cases in less than a couple weeks? Here we go again. Our domestic buyer Ryan Woodhouse managed to get us an unbelievable deal on these wines from Comptche Ridge. This is tier-one Mendocino Pinot Noir. The 2013 was my favorite of the Pinot Noirs. There’s a vivid intensity to the nose and plenty of clear, bright fruit. The palate delivers with notes of cranberry, cherry, and a hint of baking spices and an acid line that’s in perfect balance with the rest of the wine. This is really exceptional Pinot Noir that can go toe-to-toe with the best in any cool climate region in California or Oregon.

This is going to be my new go-to Pinot, while it lasts. At K&L, we're always on the hunt for the best Pinot we can find for the price, and I can recall very few opportunities as good as this. There are layers of bright red fruit coating the palate, a bit of sauvage that briefly hints at Burgundy, but a texture and richness that seems to parallel the elite bottlings you might find on the Sonoma Coast. All and all, it is a crowd-pleasing, yet detailed Pinot Noir that will not last long on our shelves. What a gem.

When I think of the 2013 Comtche Ridge Pinot the first thing comes to mind is umami and texture. Out of the four vintages, I believe it is the most concentrated and the richest. On the nose, I get a beautiful array of white pepper, muddled cranberry and a hint of smoky game. If you like your Pinots with a little more chew I would pick this tasty fella out of the bunch.

Another enticing offering from Comptche Ridge Estate. The 2013 opens with a clean nose of baking spice, forest raspberry, marmalade & a hint of violets. The palate delivers a fresh combo of grapiness & Bing cherry that transitions into a silky, smooth lingering finish that leaves you craving another sip. This wine is an excellent example of cool climate California Pinot Noir done right.
