Tasting Notes

This estate is owned by Louis and Anne Moreau, who farm it with great care. They have stopped using all pesticides, reduced herbicides, and started plowing between rows instead of spraying. The vines here are almost 50 years old. The Bieville is always a bit rounder and richer in character than their Louis Moreau Chablis, but retains the same sense of freshness and bright minerality to accompany the lovely floral notes.

Chablis offers a unique expression of the Chardonnay grape. Its climate and soils are nearer to those of Champagne - both literally and figuratively - than to the rest of Burgundy. Crisp. Clean. Mineral driven. Usually unoaked. Sometimes lightly floral. Fruit notes range from green apple to lemon to peach. How wonderful then to find such classic character in the 2014 Domaine de Bieville Chablis from Louis Moreau and all for a mere $14.99. A superb introduction to the Chablis style and a great value.

You literally can't find a better deal in white Burgundy than this! I don't remember the last time I tasted a Chablis this pure and focused for under $20! Super classic in texture and style, this Chablis is chock-full of minerality, quenching acidity, and subtle stone fruit/citrus undertones. This is the perfect wine for a crab feast this holiday season!

We have imported two delicious Chablis from Louis Moreau, the Moreau regular villages production and this Gem from their Domiane de Bieville estate. Both of them our incredible buys and may be the best deal for great drinking Chablis' for the year. As with the regular Moreau, the Bieville drinks as if it is a Premier Cru at two to three times the price. Aromas of green apples, almonds, and jasmine-like floral notes are distinctive and underscored by that classic chalky, limestone mineral quality. Carrying over nicely across a clean, crisp, mouthwatering palate impression and finish, this Gem has excellent structure and acid backbone, and would be the perfect accompaniment to shell fish, particularly crab or lobster. The Bean has demanded that I bring home several cases of this Gem for our near-term consumption. Don's miss this Great Value! ***** 12.5% ABV *****

Classic Chablis with its "pierre-à-fusil" nose and plenty of that beautiful grapefruit and green apples.

Finding those inexpensive bottles that you can really get behind is a wonderful thing in the wine biz. While you won’t hallucinate Xanadu when under its influence, I can say, in general, that it is one of our best un-oaked Chardonnays, and is, furthermore, one of our most accessible, crowd-pleasing, Chablis. The nose is clean, racy, and tart, with the classic cool, wet stone, and saline notes, adding intrigue. The palate delivers a relatively open, round mouth-feel, for Chablis, before resolving in a brisk, mineral direction, making this one that can pair food or stand alone equally well. Catch it while you can!

A perennial favorite here in Hollywood, the 2014 vintage of Domaine De Bieville (an estate owned by Louis Moreau) is classic in all ways, just with a bit more OOMPH! Featuring expressive hints of green apple and pear, and, as we're of course talking about CHABLIS here, we cannot forget about the strong minerality. It's slightly fuller than most others found at this price, and makes for an immensely pleasurable match for virtually any chicken or seafood.

You pretty much can't get a better bottle of Chablis at this price point. The nose is briny with the scent of lime. The mid-palate is accentuated with green apple, grapefruit, and wet stones. This is a great marriage between soaring acidity and medium viscosity that creates a very pleasing round lingering finish. At this price pick up a case to have on hand for any day of the week drinking or that impromptu Summer party.

Wow this is an incredible deal! Touch of tart green apple, lots of minerality , super clean and brisk! Real Chablis at 15 bucks and just fantastic at this price. This will absolutely be added to my "House White" selection at home.

The 2014 vintage of Bieville Chablis is stunning. Honeyed, tropical fruit aromas give way to a surprisingly ripe, but structured body with crisp melon and grapefruit notes. A beautiful wine with all the classic Chablis grace and elegance, and drinking quite well now. These go quickly, so try one now!

This is a screamin’ deal! The 2014 domaine de Bieville Chablis for only $14.99 represents one of the best deals I have tasted this year. Normally a Chablis of this quality would easily run $23-$30 a bottle and you can get it for literally half that. Loaded with intoxicating aromas of Kaffir lime, sweet aromas of white flowers and green almonds this wine unloads to a voluptuous palate of passion fruit, lime, saline, wet stone and hints of smoke. Medium-to-full-bodied this wine has great acidity and balance which makes it incredibly versatile and can be paired with most casual faire as well as enjoyed on its own. Don’t miss out on one of the best wine deals I’ve seen this year.

I was pleasantly shocked to discover this Chablis to be barely $15. Crisp, with a lemony nose and surprising roundness, this lovely white goes down easily while maintaining the minerality and beautiful acidity of a white Burgundy twice this price.

The Bieville has everything you could possibly want in a Chablis: loads of chalky minerality, Golden Delicious apples, white flowers and balance with striking acidity. So clean and so pure. This is one of the great values in the store right now.
