Woody, herbal and resplendent in forest-floor pine and sandalwood, this is a complex, earthy and medium-bodied wine. It's low in oak, and revelatory in cool-climate seductions of pomegranate, cranberry and rhubarb compote. The finish is all black tea, with still-developing tannin structure and power. (VB)
The 2013 Pinot Noir Calegari Vineyard is bold and juicy to the core, yet also has terrific supporting structure to balance things out. Super-ripe raspberry, rose petal and tobacco notes give the wine its racy, succulent personality. The Calegari fleshes out nicely on the mid-palate and finish, where the wine shows striking vertical depth. This is very nicely done. (AG)
There is a vaguely liqueur-like quality to the essence of red cherry and dark raspberry suffused nose that evidences a background nuance of menthol. The suave, round and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess solid mid-palate density while offering reasonably good depth and persistence on the balanced and sappy finish. Note that while this should be capable of rewarding mid-term cellaring it is sufficiently forward such that it could also be enjoyed young. Drink: 2019+ *Outstanding*
As for the 2013 Pinot Noir Calegari Vineyard, this is a deeply hued, dark ruby/purple Pinot Noir. It shows wonderfully sweet raspberry and cherry fruit, some attractive minerality, medium to full body, and outstanding purity and depth. It is another impressive effort from Williams Selyem to drink over the next decade. (RP)
Bright and lively, with a zesty mix of spicy, delicate cherry and raspberry notes, shaded by lightly smoky, toasty oak. Ends with a long, clean, elegant aftertaste. Drink now through 2022. (JL)
