Balanced to a T, offering complex pear, anise, vanilla and butterscotch hints, with a firm, pithy backbone of acidity. The long aftertaste reverberates. (JL)
A struggle between screaming acidity and subtle, salty oak provide a tension of freshness to this wine. It teases in tangerine and jasmine before giving way to more comforting characteristics of honeyed tea and baked pear. The minerality balances a full and strong body. (VB)
The 2013 Chardonnay Drake Estate Vineyard has a light golden color and notes of tangerine oil, honeysuckle and citrus blossom. It is full-bodied, rich, and stunning. In fact, it reminds me somewhat of a Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne. This beauty should drink well for up to a decade. (RP)
