Orange peel, smoke, spices, mint and apricot pit flesh out in the 2013 Chardonnay Camp Meeting Ridge Vineyard. Bold and textured in its flavors but classically mid-weight in style, the 2013 captures a hugely attractive middle ground. (AG)
The 2010 Chardonnay Camp Meeting Ridge emerges from the glass with hints of butter, dried pears and almonds, all supported by French oak. Rich, vivid and totally textured, the 2010 impresses for its fabulous overall balance and sheer class. The Meeting Ridge is done exclusively in oak, which gives the wine a level of palate presence and oiliness. The phenolic material in the fruit is tangible. (AG)
At first this seems like a rather obvious Chardonnay, with stereotypical notes of oak and sumptuous warmth. A day of air shows the pedigree of the fruit, which comes from organically farmed vines planted in 1991 on a ridge two miles from the Pacific coast. Oxygen takes its generous ripeness toward earthen power, expressed through the appetizing spice of turmeric and a savory richness that one taster compared to duck fat. Age it for a few years, then decant it for crab or grilled king trumpet mushrooms.
Attractive nose, weighty and full-bodied palate with zesty acidity, and a mineral edge. Vibrant and long finish displaying real elegance; should age well. (Tasting Panel: MA, SB, AH)
