Bright medium red-ruby. Lovely floral lift to the aromas of raspberry and minerals. Tight and serious in the mouth, showing moderate density but terrific definition to its red fruit flavors complicated by a suggestion of incense. Turned plumper with aeration but this is still not a particularly opulent style. Ripely tannic and very long on the aftertaste. Winemaker Andy Erickson notes that this vintage is much more typical of its site than the 2011. (ST)
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2012 Proprietary Red Blend spent nearly two years in French oak prior to bottling. Notes of sweet licorice, red and blackcurrants, coffee bean, white chocolate, spice box and subtle oak are all present in this pure, nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, voluptuous 2012. It can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15+ years. (RP)
The 2012 Dancing Hares is dark, voluptuous and racy. Black cherry, plum, smoke, menthol and new leather all meld together in a voluptuous wine that captures the essence of this warm site at the base of Howell Mountain. Because of the small size of the property many of the lots are fermented in barrel, which gives additional textural richness and raciness, but also leaves the wine marked by oak. (AG)
Flavors of dried berry, cedar and fresh-turned earth come together on the finish, but this never sheds the firm, gutsy tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027. (JR)
