A structured, relatively cool Volnay, dominated more by ripe tannins than by fruit. The fruit that is there is fresh, layered with acidity, juicy in texture, with cranberry and black plum skin flavors. The finish suggests red berries with its firmness. The wine demands at least five years’ aging.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

A slightly riper nose features a violet floral nose along with blue and red pinot fruit that precedes very rich and relatively powerful medium plus-bodied flavors that offer excellent volume and ample mouth coating sap and while the finish is not as precise, there is perhaps even better overall depth. A choice.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Good full red. Cool, medicinal aromas of cherry liqueur and graphite. High-toned and perfumed in the mouth, with plenty of richness and a suggestion of marc Suave and aromatic wine, with the liqueur-like quality carrying through to the finish. Not a particularly sweet style, but the tannins are not dry.

Plenty of coffee and spice on the nose then power and persistence on the palate. Firm and dry but not drying. Some perfumed red fruit on the mid palate but also minerally and fine. Perfumed length.
