A very tangy and bright white with intense white peach, grapefruit and mineral character. Full body, crisp acidity. Gorgeous. One of the best Carbonnieux ever.
Fresh, fruity and fragrant, this wine has a pure line of acidity and crisp citrus alongside its tangy texture. The tightness shows its aging potential; drink from 2020. Founded in the 13th century by Benedictine monks, Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest estates in the Bordeaux region. In 1956, Marc Perrin purchased the château and began vineyard and winery renovations that were continued by son Antony. The property is now run by grandsons Eric and Philibert. (RV)
This has lots of energy, with enticing thyme and tarragon notes flecking the core of lemon zest, white peach, tangerine and straw flavors. The long salted butter finish crackles with life. Rock-solid, and will be fun to cellar for a touch. (JM)
Pale straw-yellow. Fresh aromas of bitter grapefruit and white flowers complicated by minerals and aromatic herbs. Then richer and deeper in the mouth than the nose suggests, with white stone fruit and gooseberry flavors that carry nicely on the back end. The wine's lively acidity and hint of tannic bitterness will have you scrambling for food. (ID)
Very attractive wax and vanilla flavours – a real classic white bordeaux nose. Lots to enjoy here – sweet citrus fruit, bright acid and plenty of herbal character too. Long finish with an attractive chewy texture. No shortcomings of the vintage discernible here!
