This is aromatically similar to the straight Dutton Ranch cuvée but is slightly more elegant thanks to the note of black raspberry. There is lovely richness to the opulent middle weight flavors that possess an abundance of mouth coating dry extract on the dusty, moderately firm and reasonably long finish. This is also somewhat juicy and succulent though here there is slightly better depth. Note that this could easily be enjoyed now... Dutton-Goldfield Winery was founded in 1998 by longtime colleagues and friends Steve Dutton and Dan Goldfield with the latter serving as winemaker. Dutton Ranch is a collection of over 60 non-contiguous parcels in Russian River Valley that comprise approximately 1,300 acres of land that they own, lease or manage. About 1,150 of these acres are planted to grapes.
Bright, deep red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, cola and herbs are currently suppressed by oak. Densely packed, broad and oaky, with brooding dark raspberry, black cherry and licorice flavors showing moderate thrust. The subdued finish displays smooth but slightly dusty tannins and a light herbal element. (ST)
