The 2012 Syrah Field Brook, from Griffin's Lair in Sonoma, is once again terrific. In 2012, the Syrah shows distinctly red-toned characteristics and a bit less varietal character than the more typical dark fruit and intensely gamy profile that are more commonly in this site. A dash of Viognier and 15-20% whole clusters add lift to the red stone fruits, flowers, mint and spices in a pretty Syrah to drink over the next handful of years.

Intense and vibrant, with firm, chewy tannins that impart a spicy, peppery and stemmy edge, balanced by a cleansing sensation. Ends with a dusty-cedary aftertaste. Drink now through 2023.
