K&L Notes

This entirely estate-grown Champagne is one of the last 2002's left in the market, and an incredibly compelling value. It is composed of 60% Chardonnay from the Grand Crus of Avize and Chouilly, and 40% Tauxieres Pinot Noir. All of wine spends time in old oak and then over ten years on the lees in the bottle. If you enjoy brioche and chalky drive in your Champagne, this is a great example of the best that vintage has to offer. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

What a treat to get our hands on some increasingly harder to find '02 vintage Champagne! Absolutely wonderful wine from an equally good vintage, for $50 is almost too good to be true. Lots of time on the lees gives this elegant wine a lovely nutty rich profile, a very fine bead delivers biscuity goodness that can only be found with time in the bottle, light on its feet with bees wax and white flowers, just a kiss of apricot. Really just a treat to drink!

Magnificent! Lemon meringue, yellow fruits and cream. On the palate, the mousse is great, soft and easy. Nice acidity on the finish with more lemon notes and hints of white stone fruits and more cream. Extremely nice at this price!

The 2002 vintage is simply one of those great vintages in Champagne and we are unlikely to see again for some time. Unfortunately as people have discovered this 2002 vintage Champagne is steadily disappearing from the market, so imagine my shock when I saw that we have one from our new Direct Import for under $50. Sporting the rich creamy style that is present in all of the Ellner Champagne I have tasted this bottling also shows honeyed baked apple notes and a brioche finish. The only problem with this is the decision to drink now or continue to age.

Do you have enough 2002 Champagne left in your cellar? I don't think anyone (except for the Ellner's in Epernay!) could ever answer yes to that question. The Seduction Brut is the most exciting older vintage Champagne that we have brought in direct in a long time, and I can't believe the value for money that it offers. The nutty, brioche filled nose gives way to a lively, chalky, bright and dry finish. This wine is so loaded and complex I just about filled up my notebook when tasting it, I found everything from cherry preserves to nougat in it. The finish has the rare peacock tail effect that usually only old great Burgundy brings to me, but with all of the refreshment of Champagne... Yum!
Top Value! Drink from 2016 to 2032
