The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard has fabulous fruit concentration, great acidity, discreet use of oak as well as notes of white peach and honeysuckle, currants and a touch of quince. Drink it over the next 4-6 years. The single-vineyard wines all represent much smaller quantities of wine. There have been several noticeable changes in the Kistler wines over the last few years, as they are certainly picking the Pinot Noir at an earlier date and going for less extraction, more fragrance and delicacy. The Chardonnays are still powerful wines but they have backed off the new oak to about 40%. (RP)
The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is laced with hints of orange blossom, dried orchard fruit, butter, smoke and savory notes -- all typical of Wente clone Chardonnay -- although there is less textural richness than is often the case. The Hyde is a pretty wine, but the vineyard signatures are not especially marked. (AG)
Possesses a compelling and exotic Puligny-Montrachet aroma. Rich and complex, offering a mix of ripe pear, fig, honeydew melon and toasty oak flavors that fold together. (JL)
