Showing lots of cool climate white pepper, mulberry, sappy pine tree and underbrush, the 2011 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is medium-bodied, vibrant and juicy on the palate. There's a sappy greenness here, but it works and this excels on its purity, prettiness and elegance. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years. (JD)
Saturated ruby. Pungent dark berries, olive and smoked meat on the perfumed nose. Sweet and tightly focused, displaying very good clarity to its juicy boysenberry and dark cherry flavors. Shows real energy on the finish, with the smoky note echoing. Smooth, even tannins fade quickly into the fruit. (JR)
The 2011 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is soft, supple and easygoing. Dark plum, mocha, spice and leather meld together in a textured, lifted Syrah that will drink well upon release. Sweet floral and tobacco notes add nuance on the close. This is a pretty wine from Big Basin, especially considering the very challenging growing season. Overall, the 2011 is delicate and forward, with less in the way of varietal character than some previous vintages. (Drink between 2014-2019) (AG)
