The 2008 Vosne-Romanee Les Chaumes hovers on the palate with a strikingly beautiful expression of subtle, fragrant fruit. The wine acquires darker, burnished tones in the glass. Jerome Chezeaux says the Chaumes has only begun to drink well within the last month or so. If that is the case, this wine has a very bright future. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. (AG)
A pretty, spicy and moderately high-toned nose is composed mostly of various red berry fruit and soft spice elements though there is just a trace of herbal tea lurking in the background. There is good punch and lovely detail to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess reasonably good depth on the ever-so-slightly edgy but persistent finish. This is one of those '98s that is nearing its apogee yet will probably always have just a trace of backend asperity. I would suggest holding this for another 2 to 3 years but it's sufficiently close to being ready that it wouldn't be a vinous crime to open a bottle now.
