There are plenty of tannins here along with fresh black currant fruits. This wine is structured and firm in the style of a Pauillac. But it also has a softer side, with elegance and light. This wine will develop relatively quickly over the next 10 years. (RV)
The 2015 Réserve de la Comtesse is a powerful, tannic second wine that looks like it will need a few years in bottle to come together, as its structural spine is imposing at this stage. Dark, brooding and intense, the 2015 possesses magnificent depth and pedigree to burn. A host of black cherry, graphite, smoke, licorice and incense hit the building, intense finish. The 2015 is a gorgeous Comtesse, but the brooding style is going to take some time to come into its own. This is a serious second wine. Tasted four times. (AG)
The second wine of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is the 2015 Reserve De Comtesse De Lalande and it’s a beautiful wine in 2015 that surpasses most Château’s grand vin. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as medium to full-bodied notes of cassis, plums, ground herbs and spring flowers. This is a ripe, sexy, opulent second wine that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 10-15 years.
Lively, with kirsch and cherry paste notes that are lined with fresh floral and bright iron notes, followed by a rather sleek finish. Web Only - 2016 (JM)
53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Really very opulent - just like blackberry juice! Until some slightly drying tannins on the end. Very Merlot-influenced with great sweetness. Early maturing. A real fleshy charmer.
