K&L Notes

Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you might think they're from a much higher (and more expensive) appellation. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This one example, harvested from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern, and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, and stainless steel for others. This value is a great alternative to California Chardonnay and an entry into white Burgundy.

Elegant and sophisticated, this Chardonnay from Domaine Renaud is delicious and versatile. It would make a great aperitif, party wine, would pair well with a range of lighter fare, or it could be a curl up on the couch and read a good book type of wine. Crisp, full of fresh minerality and ripe orchard fruit, this is an everyday white to grab on your next visit in.

From high up on the top of a steep slope (the Solutre) these vines suffer extreme stress and dig deep into the rocky soil searching for nourishment and sucking up lots of minerals in the process. 2015 Gave generous heat and warmth but this bottling still shows the pristine clarity and super mineral finish to match all that fruit.

A great followup to the outstanding 2014 vintage, this 2015 Domain Renaud Macon Solutre offers the same classic minerality plus a little extra ripeness and sweetness of fruit. Notes of candied lemon peel and bitter grapefruit pith. Bright and lively and very fresh in style. Lovely weight here without sacrificing focus or intensity. Delicious.

Pascal and Mireille Renaud farm and harvest several parcels within the Pouilly- Fuisse region, and all of their wines are defined by their utter freshness and gracious, refined fruit. Hard to pick a favorite from their stunning lineup, but Macon Solutre possesses a slightly higher degree of acidity and definition, with flavors of tart green apples, nectarines and crisp Asian pears that announce their virtues in the glass. A splendidly crisp white wine that will pair well with seafood, especially that which finds its home in a bivalve shell....

The 2015 Mâconnais single vineyard productions from Domaine Renaud are absolutely fabulous wines and none of them should be missed. We have been directly importing these Gems for at least the last five years and I have been enamored with every production. One of my favorites is this single vineyard offering of Solutre, which offers distinctive richness and a broad set of flavors much more associated with such productions as Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault. Lush ripe white peach to nectarine aromas with a slate-like, chalky mineral undertone are abundant in the nose, and carries across extremely well in the mouth to a deeply flavored, profound set of flavor characteristics, with excellent structure, and superb components presentation to it mouthwatering, long finish. The Bean has demanded that I bring home cases of this wonderful Gem and feels that you need to do the same. AN AMAZING VALUE! >>>A K&L WINE MERCHANTS' DIRECT IMPORT<<< ***** 13.0% ABV *****

The Domaine Renaud porfolio are a go-to value in KL's Burgundy section that should not be missed. The Macon Solutre is drinking fantastically right now! If you are looking for something totally affordable, and love the mineral driven, crisp, fresh side of Chardonnay this is one to stock up on. Super recommended for everyday drinking and a great pick if you are looking for an inexpensive event wine.

Always one of my favorite Burgundy values, the Solutre has the fleshier riper notes from what is shaping up to be an outstanding vintage. Full of ripe apple, peach and wet stone flavors, this is destined to become one of my daily drinkers. It should be yours too!

A super value Macon Solutre that expresses its uniqueness. This wine is elegant, crisp and well-structured. This 2015 Chardonnay is chalky with a mineral quality. The wine is mouth-filling and full, with a smooth and supple finish.
