A full and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and stone character. Some black tea, too. Full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. A big and muscular wine with classic Pomerol might.
The 2015 Maillet has ripe black cherries and raspberry coulis on the nose, nicely defined, not complex but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, tarry black fruit and quite saline toward the finish. This is an interesting and characterful Maillet that should age with style. (NM)
Plush, with friendly plum and blackberry compote notes, a flash of anise and a well-integrated apple wood spine. Harmonious and built for near-term consumption. (Web only, 2018) (JM)
