The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 75% new French oak prior to bottling) demonstrates the vintage’s great intensity, purity, structure and potential high ceiling. Opaque blue/purple with notes of graphite, blueberry and blackberry fruit, charcoal, incense and a full-bodied mouthfeel, the wine has noticeable, but sweet, well-integrated tannins, acidity and wood. This wine is young and promises to be even better in another 5-6 years and keep for 20-30 or more years. (RP) 95+

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is bold, inky and powerful to the core. Crème de cassis, blackberry jam, mint, licorice and cinnamon meld together as this extroverted, powerful wine shows off its Howell Mountain pedigree. The 2013 is going to need at least a few years in the cellar to fully come together, but it is pretty special, even at this early stage. (AG)
