Tasting Notes

Wow! An insane value in Cabernet from famed (Jimmy Watson Trophy Winner) winemaker Jeremy Gordon. Trellis is a new line of wines from Margaret River-based Amelia Park. The fruit, as with all of Amelia Park's wines, is sourced from some of the best vineyards in the region. Most producers in this ultra-premium wine region charge top dollar for their wines, how Amelia Park can deliver this level of quality, for these tiny prices, continues to amaze me. Jeremy makes beautiful, pure, fruit driven wines with excellent richness, balance and polish. This is just ridiculous value in Cabernet that is sure to be a winner with many of our customers. Stunning wine at an everyday price thanks to our Direct Import.

If I had tasted the 2013 Trellis (Amelia Park) Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot Margaret River blind, I would have assumed it was a much more expensive wine. However, since I was aware of the true retail price, my actual response at first sip was a calm, restrained, very professional “Holy &%$@!” I don’t know what to say about this wine that won’t be dismissed as mere hyperbole, but I can tell you honestly that it may very well be one of the top $10 reds we currently have available. This is classic Margaret River Cab (actually a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot) for a mere song. The nose is lightly floral with a hint of mint. On the palate, notes of cherry and raspberry, generous red fruits, sweet and ripe. The wine is rich in texture but with near perfect balance. Bright and lively with ultra-fine tannins. An absolute delight to drink and an unbeatable value.

This Cabernet Sauvignon might be one of the best deals in house! I would put this wine up against any $10 Cabernet and truly believe this would hold it's own, if not out shine the competition. The soft approachable tannin and dark savory fruit are perfectly balanced with it's juicy acid. This is a guilt free everyday drinker, that is worth stocking up on!

I was pleased to see this wine come back in because I had so many people asking about it after we sold out of it last year. Better than ever, the Trellis features ripe red fruit with beautifully balanced spice notes and a little tannin and acid that brings the whole bottle into harmony. This is one of those I-cannot-believe-this-deal wines, drinking superbly well for such an amazing price. It is probably worth stocking up on because despite how much we got in this year it will disappear sooner than anyone wants.

Amelia Park, lying within the famed Margaret River region, has consistently been one of Western Australia's most heralded wineries, and when the opportunity arises to share their renowned, ebullient wines with customers, we rarely hesitate. The Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot represents such an amazing value that it is hard to believe it navigated over 8,700 miles to arrive on our shelves, but don't ask why, the answer lies in the ravishing black and blue fruit, suave spice, touch of oak and smoothly polished tannins that envelops all doubters in its spell. One cannot help but wonder....

Wow, this is almost too easy to enjoy! The plush, dark fruit gives off fresh red plum, with more generous blue and purple berries. The wine has a great and approachable spice profile that is very elegant and subtle at the back end, and along the generous and long finish. I can not wrap my head around this more than fair price point. This is the perfect entertaining Cab, food friendly wine, and everyday drinker. Its got balance, purity and energy...all for less than $15?!

It is crazy that this wine is only $11. It is just another example of the great Cabernet that is being produced in the Margaret River, at all price points. Bright fruit, moderate tannins, good acid and a little intrigue, what else can you ask for?
