There is a vaguely liqueur-like quality to the pure essence of red berries that exhibit a wide range of spice and floral characters. The sleek and silky medium-bodied flavors possess a sophisticated mouth feel thanks to the supporting fine-grained tannins that also shape the beautifully well-balanced and highly persistent finale. This will need a few years to better develop additional depth but the underling material should be up to the challenge. *Outstanding*
Floral and savory notes are pushed forward in the 2014 Pinot Noir Summa Vineyard. Pliant and resonant on the palate, the Summa is a bit deeper than the Old Vines, but also less finessed, especially in this vintage. Interestingly, the Summa is quite a bit fleshier than the Old Vines, which is a bit counterintuitive. Savory herbs, crushed flowers, anise and dark cherry add the final shades of nuance. (AG)
