Bright, forceful and slightly reductive, this white is aged less than a year in neutral French oak, allowing the fruit to speak and offer richness on the midpalate. Gingerbread and lemongrass flavors accent its essential core of green apple fruit. (VB)
*One Star* There are family resemblances between this wine and its mate above in their appley focus and supporting oak, but this wine is tight both in aroma and across the palate and comes with acidity that sticks out a bit. It is nearly equal to its mate in ripeness while lacking some of that wine's greater depth and richness, and it is recommended for service with pan-grilled trout, cracked crab and other lighter preparations.
The 2014 Chardonnay from White Rock Vineyards offers attractive minerality, hints of pineapple and orange rind, medium body, a discreet use of oak, and excellent fruit and purity. It could easily pass for a premier cru Chablis in a blind tasting. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. The wines from White Rock are refined and restrained, but always flavorful and promising. (RP)
