Tasting Notes

Méthode Traditionnelle (same process as Champagne) 60% Chardonnay 40% Folle Blanche grown in soils consisting of chalk and flint on the south side of the Loir. This fun bubbly is fresh, vibrant yet delicate and textural. Subtle hints of brioche with a ultrathin spread of fruit which adds to the aromatic. There is a nice richness on the palate which comes from the Chardonnay and then finishes clean and mouthwatering thanks to the Folle Blanche. This is a super food-friendly bubbly, but will double down and be a fantastic stand-around cocktail sipper as well.

This sparkler is a very crisp and enticing Blanc de Blanc from the Loire. The wine is bright and dry, with a very present acidity, but also shows depth in the subtle creaminess and spicy quality of the Chardonnay. I was very pleased with the round mouthfeel and lingering flavors of creme brulee and nutmeg in this inexpensive methode traditionelle bubbly.

I really enjoy how the Chardonnay and Folle Blanche play off each other. The richness of the Chard really shines up front giving the wine character and body while the Folle Blanche keeps everything in a straight line with a nice crispy finish.

The food pairing possibilities here are endless. This sparkler is light and fresh with a great acidic cut. Fresh apples and pears dance around ready to play nice with all your favorite summertime dishes. The fruit is rounded out by some steely minerality and the lovely faint scent of your favorite bakery just down the street. Oh yeah, and the price lets you drink it every night of summer without any guilt.

We've got big, biscuity bottles of bubbles from outside Champagne--this, however, isn't one of them. Sure, there is a whiff of toast point 'n' butter, but this is quickly bypassed, with the wine trading more on delicate, fresh fruit character. The fruit flavor is so light here, with the sort of gossamer transparency you might find in an Asian pear, that it almost seems to be heading in a floral direction, yet it pulls up short. Clean and bright, this makes a persuasive case for itself as perfect summertime refreshment.

My favorite vintage of the Idiart Brut yet, with flavors of nectarines and peaches, honey and a hint of brioche. There is a richness in the palate while still having bright, clean acidity. Enjoy all day, everyday with just about anything.
