We visited Green and Red during our K&L trip to Napa in May and it was outstanding and memorable. Driving up the mountain to the vineyard, we were treated to spectacular views, and the fruit for this "Tip Top" Zinfandel comes from their very highest plantings, at 1,700 feet. This Zinfandel is spicy and earthy, while retaining intriguing and elegant flavors of ripe cherries and fresh raspberries. Well balanced with great acidity. Highly recommended!

Beautiful, bright, and easy drinking Zinfandel, the Tip Top vineyard is just about always my favorite Zin from Green & Red. It has power and concentration, but without every feeling heavy, sugary, or oaky. It's just made from extraordinary fruit from an amazing vineyard site and treated deftly in the cellar. Bramble fruits, cracked peppercorn, baking spices, and the earthiness of woody herbs all lifted by excellent acidity give this wine beautiful balance and poise. Truly a top value in Zinfandel from anywhere in the world.
    Top Value!

Serious Zinfandel, the 2013 Green & Red Tip Top shows all the spicy, brambly berry and dark cherry fruit I like in Zinfandel, with the added tannin structure and brighter acidity provided by mature vines on a higher elevation site. In other words, this is spectacular and likely to be my favorite Zinfandel of the year. Great stuff from a legendary Zin producer.

If there's ever a wine that deserves to be called Tip Top, it's this Zin. Even on the precarious drive up to the serene winery, you feel as though you're teetering on the edge and at any moment you could fall off the side of the mountain. The vineyard itself sits between 1400-1800 feet above sea level terraced into the summit of the mountain. I guess it's only natural that the most impressive vineyard produces the most intriguing wine. Assuming it's because of the high elevation, stressed vines, this Napa zin is concentrated and structured with savory spice, pink peppercorn and bramble, along with black cherry and plum defining the palate. Drink today or put away, this Zin is sure to delight!

This is the Green and Red Zin with the most intrigue, the most spice, the most texture and structure. Great old school Napa Zin. A mixture of dark berries and lifted red fruits, the play out with wild herbs and pepper spice on a long finish.

From high upon their picturesque vineyards in Chiles Valley, Jay and Pam Heminway and their team have made excellent Zinfandel for decades. Somehow, our entire team had never been to their estate, and we were all completely happy to finally see this very rustic and honest operation. The Tip Top Vineyard is exactly what it sounds like—their highest elevation vines, ranging from 1,400 to 1,800 feet above sea level. Concentrated but without sugar intensity, heavily spiced but without noticeable oak, this wine was a revelation in Zinfandel, and for a completely reasonable price. Black pepper, Asian spice, dusty blackberries and a layered and open nature make this dark-toned wine something to please just about any Zin fan.

Napa fruit, from a high elevation. single vineyard, if those words were associated with a Cabernet, this would be triple the price tag. That makes this amazing Green and Red Zinfandel one of the best values to be found from California’s priciest growing region. This wine is old school Zinfandel at its best, densely fruited, opulent and structured without being overwrought, we are in love with this bottle for $24.99. Dense and brooding, filled with opaque fruit notes of black plum, licorice and rustic cherry notes. The power of this wine is felt in the mid palate and finish, savory notes of fresh forest floor intermingle with boysenberry and cedar, wrapped in tannins that are grippy, needed to stand up to the body of the wine. Zins made in this style give you a hedonistic pleasure in the immediate term, pair with anything you want to put on the grill, and will also stand to gain from 5+ years in the cellar.
