Offers plenty of spicy oak, with vanilla and clove, but also rich, concentrated cherry and raspberry underneath. Very elegant and supple overall, with a long, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2013 through 2028. (BS)
The 2005 Barolo Fossati is the darkest and richest of these Baroli, which is a bit surprising given the lighter nature of the vintage. The Fossati shows quite a bit of juiciness in its dark raspberries, flowers and sweet French oak. All of the elements come together beautifully in this expressive, fruit-driven Barolo. The finish remains vibrant and plump through to the close. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. (AG)
Within the context of Langhe winemakers, Cascina Adelaide favors plush, modern expressions of Nebbiolo with lots of wood. Barolo Fossati does indeed show awkward oak notes at first and that's why it's important to hold this wine a few more years in your cellar. Once the wine is allowed time to integrate, its plush fruit aromas and sweet spice close will come nicely in line.
