The 2014 Saint Aubin 1er Cru le Charmois has a reserved, quite Chablis-like bouquet with cold granite and flint scents, white flowers and perhaps a hint of baking powder in the background. Lovely definition here and beautifully focused. The palate is very well balanced but shows a touch more fatness than the other Saint Aubins. As a consequence, perhaps it does not covet the same nervosité and tension as say, the En Remilly at the moment. Still, it doles out pleasure, if not the same intellect. (NM)
A beautifully layered nose combines notes of white flowers, citrus, pear and wet stone. There is an appealingly sleek, intense and textured palate impression to the delicious middle weight flavors that evidence a subtle minerality on the balanced and lightly saline finale. Lovely stuff and very Charmois in character.
