I have long enjoyed Maude's wines; they are quite distinctive in that they are powerful but quite linear and focused. There is plenty of pure Central Otago fruit but the shape on the palate is elongated and refined rather than fleshy and broad. I always want to describe them as being defined by small, compact berry fruits...the wines feel highly polished and honed but the winemaking is actually very non-invasive and minimalist...perhaps it's just the quality of fruit being used here? The wines are made by a dynamic duo, husband and wife wine making team Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen. Fruit is selected from some of the best sub-regional sites in Central Otago including Maude's dramatic hillside home block in Wanaka. Traditionally fermented in open fermenters, hand plunged and all wild yeast. After 10 months maturation in 30% new French oak the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.     I loved tasting this great Central Otago gem when our buyer was able to bring this wine over for us to enjoy. The wine is pretty, focused, rich, and elegant. For the minimal intervention techniques that this wine making team employs, it is surprising the amount of precision and generosity the fruit gives the palate. This is a great bottle, at an even greater price for the Pinot Noir lovers out there to enjoy.

    The light color reminds me of a Burgundy. Very nice aromatics of cherries, cola and woodsy spices.
