K&L Notes

Dog Point's "Section 94" is one of the most delicious and distinctive New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs out there. Dog Point is run by two ex-Cloudy Bay legends Ivan and James. With decades of industry leading experience behind them and some of the best (organically certified) estate vineyards in all of Marlborough, Dog Point is truly one of the most remarkable properties in the southern hemisphere. The "Section 94" bottling is Dog Point's reserve or upper tier wine. The fruit is selected from one specific block of the original vineyard plantings and wild fermented in French oak. The wine has a distinctive and deliberate flinty minerality, matchstick notes and rich, textured fruit in the riper yellow tree fruit spectrum, peach, nectarine, yellow plum with a cut of citrus acidity to keep it focused. This is undeniably NZ Sauv Blanc but with a little extra complexity, richness and depth than many of its kin. It's not hard to see why this wine is an icon in its own right, earning massive scores from the international press. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L NZ Wine Buyer)

A surprising wine, that to me resembled of a Meursault! Yet, it is not Chardonnay, but of course Sauvignon Blanc, barrel fermented and from very low yields. Perhaps is the slight nuttiness along with the flint notes that put my mind in the great Burgundy cru. But whatever it was, I found absolutely intriguing.
