A model of total grace and understatement, the 2013 Doisy-Daëne is drop-dead-gorgeous. Freshly cut white flowers, mint, sweet spices, pears and lychee all meld together in the glass in an effortless, gracious wine. The soft, intensely floral, crystalline finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. The 2013 Doisy-Daëne impresses for its superb drinkability. If I was going to buy only one moderately-priced Sauternes in 2013, Doisy-Daëne would be it. (AG)
Denis Dubourdieu has a created a fine Doisy-Daene, with attractive white peach and honeysuckle on the precise bouquet, which exudes wonderful transparency. The palate is very well-defined with fine acidity, the oak deftly integrated. It gradually builds in the mouth: harmonious and refined with great composure towards the long and satisfying finish. This is one of the finest Barsac wines of the vintage. (NM)
Plump and forward, this delivers peach, nectarine and candied lemon peel notes gilded with lots of honeysuckle and heather. A flash of bitter almond helps streamline everything through the racy finish. Best from 2017 through 2027. (JM)
This is a complex wine that pops with acidity, followed by an intense botrytis character and a firm, dry structure. It’s as much about richness as sweetness. The finish is delicious, with ample acidity. (RV)
A tight and compressed young Sauternes with masses of botrytis spice character of white pepper and mushroom dust. Dried apples and lemons. Full body, yet agile and lively. Sweet yet fresh finish. Structured young Sauternes.
Palish yellow-gold. High-toned but closed on the nose today, hinting at honey, lime, ginger and grilled nuts. Then quite pure and aromatic in the mouth, offering flavors of fresh citrus fruits, saffron and honey complicated by a botrytis-related smoky bitterness. Perfumed and nicely delineated on the long finish, showing lively snap thanks to zippy acidity. Lovely wine. (ID)
Elegant apple and apricot nose, with some honey and oak in the background. The palate is waxy with well-integrated oak and some floral notes. Has a persistent finish despite modest acidity.
Tasted blind. Not much on the nose, perhaps some dried grasses? Chamomile? More savoury than most but with fine, clear-cut lemon peel. Orange on the palate. Broad and almost gentle. Long, long finish. (JH) 18/20 points
