Tasting Notes

Field Recordings is a small winery in Paso Robles that was started by Andrew Jones, who began his wine journey as a nursery vine grower and has stepped foot in nearly all the vineyards on the Central Coast of California. All his vineyard expertise is translated into his bottled wine, Field Recordings and Wonderwall (and also wine-in-a-can under the labels Alloy Wine Works and Fiction). Wonderwall focuses on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from extreme Central Coast vineyards.

A charming, ready to drink and affordable California Pinot Noir? You've got it all with this delicious Central Coast wine from a small, experienced producer. Soft, easy and showing some lovely complexity for the price with notes of berries, a hint of baking spice and a slightly earthy quality makes this well balanced wine a great addition to your Pinot Noir lineup.

I've yet to meet winemaker Andrew Jones, but have tasted and enjoyed several of Wonderwall and Field Recordings wines, the better part of them sourced from favorable sites that Jones was drawn to from his deep roots as a nurseryman, walking, planting and cultivating vines up and down the Central Coast. My appreciation took a surreal take when he decided to put Salvador Dali's famous mug on this bottle of Pinot, a fruitful, spicy dollop, or should I say, 'Dalip' of wine, very pliant and approachable, with enough sweet succulence and charm to melt the hours....wait, didn't Dali already paint that?

What a delightful Pinot Noir! Full of black cherries, figs, cola and almond bark. Touch of smoke and black tea. Hint of white pepper, clove and cinnamon.

A juicy, easy, no-brainer wine right under $20. Notes of blueberry, strawberry, wet leaves and subtle spice come through on the nose, while the palate is super smooth, with medium tannin and balanced acidity.
