Notes of black raspberry, dark cherry, plum and a vaguely exotic character serve as a very pretty introduction to the supple, round and delicious flavors that don't possess quite the same mid-palate density of the best in the range, all wrapped in a focused, balanced and solidly persistent finish where a hint of asperity surfaces.
This is one of the producer's more full-bodied wines, a blend from several sites along Eastside Road, including Calegari, Foss and a new source--Lewis MacGregor Estate. Rich, round and plush, it's as strong as black coffee in its marriage of earthy allspice, baked cherry, blueberry and smoke. Moderate acidity allows for an underlying minerality. (VB)
