The Daou brothers have become increasingly known for their rich, unctuous and lavish high-end wines, but this bottling offers a taste of that opulence for just $30. Plump blueberry and soft, cedar-like spice scents show on the nose, while the palate bursts with black cherry, dark chocolate and caramel flavors, powered by ample acidity. It will age gracefully, but is already delicious. *Editors' Choice* (MK)
Plump and juicy, this seamless effort is focused on red berry and jammy notes, showing plush tannins, depth of flavor and length. Ultraripe but stays within bounds. Drink now through 2030. (JL, Web Only-2017)
Dark purple. Energetic, spice-tinged aromas of dried cherry, red currant, mocha and licorice. Juicy and tightly focused, showing very good energy and lift to the bitter cherry and red berry flavors. Becomes spicier and deeper with air and finishes on a youthfully chewy note, with very good persistence and dusty tannins adding structure. (JR)
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon offers up intense cassis, black plums and blackberry preserves notes with hints of spice box and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, it has firm, chewy tannins and good earthy expression on offer in the mouth, with nice freshness and persistence. (LPB)
