K&L Notes

Pencarrow is the second label of Martinborough stalwart Palliser Estate. As a new K&L Direct Import they represent fantastic value for money. The QPR is pretty hard to beat given the pedigree of the fruit source and winemaking team. Perfect party wines that won't break the bank but are sure to impress! (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L NZ Wine Buyer)

Here is a killer value in a full-bodied and rich yet bone dry wine with plenty of complexity. This is floral with crushed melon and kiwi fruit and hints of nectarine on the sweet and snappy mineral tinged finish. An unbelievable price for this level of quality.

It is hard to believe that we are able to get serious, acid driven, balanced wine from excellent vineyards for just over $10. Nevertheless this second label of Palliser delivers all of that and more. Driving acid with notes of tropical fruit and a fresh floral nose showcase a slightly more serious side of NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Long, lingering finish means this wine will go well with a variety of dishes and be a great one to stock for warmer weather.

It almost feels too good to be true. How can such a clean, aromatic and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc cost so little? More magic out of New Zealand, my favorite area for the varietal. Classic gooseberry and grapefruit with a touch of herbal flavors. It’s very balanced and easy-drinking. At this price, this could easily become your new summer house white.

This Sauvignon Blanc from the North Island is a stand-out in so many ways. The fruit emanating from this wine is incredible and becomes even more vibrant due to a backing of healthy acidity, as expected from a cool climate area. The herbal/vegetal character of this SB is low, with mineralty and tropical fruit notes taking the forefront. I can't recommend this one enough, especially for its $10.99 price tag. Don't miss this incredibly easy-drinking, vibrant wine from Pencarrow!

When I first started working at K&L, the Patient Cottat was the great $10 sauvignon blanc; a Sancerre-like bargain bottle from the Loire. While I still think it's a great deal, it's no match for the Pencarrow. At $10.99, this lovely little find by our buyer Ryan Woodhouse has firmly cemented itself as the clean, crisp, and overachieving white wine bargain of the future. While it's from New Zealand, the fruit is from a stony flood plain in Marlborough and the result is a Sancerre-like minerality in the wine (even more so than the Patient Cottat). For those who like zippy, fresh, and lip-smacking sauvignon blanc, this is your new bottle. All hail the new king of Tuesday night: Pencarrow.

This is my new go-to value NZ Sauvignon Blanc. It has great clean fruit, without the hot pepper aromas and flavors that sometimes dominate SB from this part of the world. I don't expect a wine in this price range to have a precise, mineral driven finish, but this surprised me with focus and length on a level with bottles twice the price.

This is another killer direct import deal coming from Martinborough, New Zealand. Lush and medium-bodied, this wine has a combination of floral and ripe tropical notes with a dry palette and refreshing finish. This is easily one of my favorite white wines at this price point!

Pencarrow is the second label from the famed Palliser Winery in Martinborough. It's delicate and fresh, showing notes of jasmine, lime peel and Asian pear. The wine has gorgeous depth and purity for thirty bucks, but for less than eleven it's flat out fantastic. Great drive and minerality with a hint of richness on the midpalate. I expect to see this wine move quickly once it gains some traction with our customers.

A very complex wine with exotic aromatics of white flowers/Jasmine, tangerine, guava marmalade and flint. The palate also follow the nose with all these flavors, but finish dry and light. Exquisite and absolutely delicious and with an incredible price!
