Refined and restrained, this is fairly tight and trim, with understated plum, blackberry and raspberry notes, ending with red candy and candied apple spiciness. (JL)
A fruity nose of red currants and cooked cherries shows how well Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton achieve balance amidst ripeness. The palate allows a little raspberry juice, yet is powered by dill, licorice, wet sagebrush, anise and pencil lead, proving savory and supple all at once. (MK)
Brilliant ruby-red. Intense, mineral-driven aromas of red berries, candied cherry, blood orange and incense, plus a sexy Asian spice quality that builds in the glass. Tangy and sharply focused, displaying superb purity and energy to its mineral-tinged raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors. Silky tannins come on late and are quickly absorbed by the wine's sappy, concentrated fruit on the finish. This deft combination of power and delicacy drinks awfully well right now. (JR)
My favorite in the lineup, the 2012 Pinot Noir 459 offers incredible notes of rose petal, freshly snipped flowers, underbrush and black cherry fruit. More elegant and seamless that the other releases, with medium-bodied richness, thrilling purity of fruit and a terrific finish, this is an awesome bottle of Pinot Noir from the team at Brewer-Clifton.
