K&L Notes

This 2014 La Chablisienne 'La Sereine' Chablis represented the greatest value of all the wines we tasted on our visit to this excellent co-operative. Loaded with pretty melon notes along with citrus and wet stone accents, this energetic and bright offering showcases the beautiful 2014 White Burgundy vintage where everything seems to be in perfect harmony. Fruit, acid, oak, tannins and sugars all meld together to create a seamless and perfectly balanced Chablis that can pair perfectly with fish, green salads or cheeses, or be enjoyed as an apéritif.

This is a classic and clean Chablis. It is light, with citrus and notes of mineral throughout . From all of the 2014 La Chblisienne products that I have tasted, this is one of my favorites because I think that it will go so well with food like seafood and was mouth watering.

It is almost silly how tasty this Chablis is considering that it is not Village level or anything. Long clean and elegant, this is a focused and complex wine that one would expect to command a higher price point. The acid and minerality are never out of balance and serve each other well to point and focus this wine. There is some lovely lemon notes here as well and a beautifully long finish. The absolute stunning 2014 vintage combined with the fruit that the people at Chablisienne can get means that we are able to bring a fantastic wine to you at a great price.

This super value is green, flinty and saline with mild crushed melon fruit and hints of honeyed citrus. Affordable, delicious Chablis to drink tonight.

Crisp with a lovely citrus component, this wine is fresh and lively. A very classic Chablis from a great vintage!10% barrel aging for the “La Sereine” helps round out this beauty.

A mouthwatering example of how multi-dimensional Chablis can be. The Chardonnay is gorgeous and elegant; the fruit aromas and flavors show beautifully, but are perfectly restrained. What makes this wine in particular so special are its racing acidity, mineral drive, and salty finish.

Leaner than the other La Chablisienne offerings but just as complex, this mineral-driven Chablis shows expressive Meyer lemon and other bright fruit with subtle salinity and racy acidity. If my rusty memory of Francis Cabrel serves, “La Sereine” means mermaid in French, and this refreshing stunner certainly lives up to its beautiful name. An elegant summer favorite, perfect for oceanside sipping.

Lean, crisp, and mineral forward, La Sereine has classic Chablis character that simultaneously quenches the palate and compels another sip. Lemon, flinty minerality, hints of spicy herb and white pepper. Enjoyable on its own on a hot day, or with some fresh oysters (the brinier the better).

Our trip to La Chablisienne this past Spring was one of the most eye-opening visits I've ever spent at a winery. We spent an absolutely spectacular morning with Fabrice Roelandt, during which we tasted more than a dozen chardonnays, each from a different vineyard location, and each with its own unique flavor profile. I was honestly overwhelmed by the variety and the depth on display. When we commented about a wine's richness, he had an answer: "This vineyard is on the right bank of the river where there is more sun, therefore it's riper." When we remarked about a wine's clean acidity and freshness, he would say: "This vineyard is located in an valley inlet where it's cooler, that's why the acidity is higher." His simple and supportive approach to Chablis eduction was as refreshing as the wines themselves; it also spoke volumes about the philosophy at the facility. "La Chablisienne doesn't have a house style," he mentioned to us as we discussed the production methods; "We do simple winemaking that reflects the character of the vineyard, nothing more." You get all that purity right away in this mineral-driven, clean, and focused La Sereine expression from 2014. It embodies everything I love about the Chablisienne wines: fresh, true-to-style, complex, drinkable now, and affordable! With the incredible quality of the vintage, and our direct pricing, you can't afford NOT to buy this.

On the extreme value end of Chablis, the La Sereine just can't be beat. A beautiful expression of ripe Chablis, honeydew notes and a stony edge lovely and balanced. A nice mild citrus finishes off this little beauty. All at the price of a mediocre chardonnay from most of the world, you get true classic Chablis.
    Top Value!
