Mid crimson. Lots of interest and drive on the nose . Very satisfying and complete. Succulent. Great balance. Dry finish. Open but not facile. Long, firm finish. (JR)
The 2015 Peter Max Pinot Noir comes from the four different vineyards with which Peter-Allan Finlayson works. It has a brisk cranberry and wild strawberry bouquet, attractive granitic aromas emerging with time, later a touch of curry leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, a tensile Pinot Noir with a vibrant spicy finish that feels long and precise. Like other Crystallum 2015s, this needs a year in bottle to show its real personality. (NM)
91+ (14% alcohol): Bright medium red. Complex, subtle perfume of raspberry, strawberry, flowers and spices. Fat, ripe and subtly sweet, offering lovely depth of texture to the red fruit, spice and smoke flavors. Very ripe but has the stuffing to maintain its balance and really needs another year or two to gain in complexity. Finishes with sweet, ripe, fine-grained tannins and noteworthy persistence. Strong spice character throughout.
A delightfully accessible Pinot from four vineyard sites in the Western Cape. A slightly farmyardy, game and redcurrant nose leads into a palate of bright red cherry fruit with a pithy grapefruit and orange acidity. There is some oak creaminess on the finish.
