Meaty flavors weave through the well-modulated currant, cherry and tar notes in this medium-weight, well-mannered red blend. The finish persists against impressive tannins, echoing all the flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. (HS)
The 2012 Hedges Family Estate Red Mountain checks in as a mix of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 8% Syrah and the balance Cabernet Franc and Malbec, which was aged ten months in 40% new American and French oak. Tobacco, herbs, underbrush, earth and ample dark fruits all emerge from this medium-bodied, charming, balanced and enjoyable Bordeaux blend that can be enjoyed anytime over the coming 7-8 years, possibly longer. The winemaking here has been taken over by Sarah Hedges Goedhart, and these latest releases are rock solid, with plenty of old school charm. (JD)
Aromas of herb, cedar, mushroom, anise and cherry are reserved on this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend. It's supple in feel, with well-balanced dark-fruit flavors and tart acidity that draws out the finish. (SS)
