Coming from a west-facing slope in the cool Sta. Rita Hills AVA, the 2012 Pinot Noir La Encantada Sta. Rita Hills starts out dark and earthy, with plenty of mushroom, forest floor and decaying leaves, yet continues to show more and more bright berry fruit with time in the glass. Possessing medium-bodied richness on the palate, with fantastic purity and a great finish, enjoy this superb Pinot Noir over the coming 4-6 years. (JD)

Brilliant red. Fresh raspberry, incense, candied rose and allspice on the fragrant nose, with a subtle note of cola gaining power with air. Sappy and concentrated, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors, a hint of bitter cherry and sexy floral pastille and spicecake nuances. Leading with its fruit today, this pinot finishes with impressive energy and lingering spiciness. No harm drinking this alluring pinot right now, but it'll definitely age, too. (JR)
